Thug Life: Mani Ratnam’s AD comments on the film’s synopsis

Thug Life starring Kamal Haasan in the lead is a Tamil film that is gearing up for a highly anticipated trailer release tomorrow. Thug Life is co-written and directed by Mani Ratnam, as as is the norm with the ace filmmaker’s movies, not much is known about Thug Life so far.

Recently, a screen-shot started doing the rounds under the guise of Thug Life synopsis. It read, “Synopsis – The film follows Rangaraya Sakthivek Naicker, a prominent & influential godfather gangster, whose world is steeped in violence and connected to global underworld syndicates. Close to his son. Rangaraya is believed to be dead at one point in the story, but eventually returns. Godfather Rangaraya & son are now torn apart by fate and ultimately become enemies, fighting against each other.”

This synopsis was being taken at face-value because Kamal Haasan stated in a recent interview that he originally wrote Thug Life‘s script as ‘Amar Hai’, inspired by the idea of Alfred Hitchcock’s The Trouble With Harry’ (1955) trailer, where the video starts with the line, “the trouble with Harry is that he is dead”. Kamal Haasan also said that the Amar Hai title which means that someone or something is immortal, was a pun because his character ‘Amar is dead.

Now an AD of Mani Ratnam’s has taken to his private Instagram page to comment on the circulating Thug Life synopsis. Along with the Thug Life trailer release poster, AD Aadhitya Anbu shared on his story, “You can write your own synopsis after watching the trailer tomorrow”

Thug Life trailer releases at 5 PM on May 17, 2025. The movie hits theater screens on June 5, 2025.
