USA defends lowest ODI total in 50-over match

The USA men’s cricket team on Tuesday defended 122 runs against Oman in a World Cup League 2 match in Al Amerat, the lowest total defended in a One-Day International that did not have overs reduced or a revised target.

Nosthush Kenjige claimed five wickets as the visitor bundled out Oman for 65 runs, the side’s lowest total in ODIs, to secure a 7-run victory.

The previous record was held by India which defended 125 runs against Pakistan in Sharjah in 1985. India won that match by 38 runs.

Interestingly, for the first time in a men’s ODI, all bowlers deployed in the match were spinners. Oman used five when bowling while USA relied on four tweakers.

Moreover, the match aggregate of 187 runs was the second-lowest in a men’s ODI where both teams were dismissed.
