Carabao Cup final: Full list of League Cup champions from 1961 to 2025 after Newcastle beats Liverpool

Newcastle United scripted history when it stunned Premier League leader Liverpool to win its first-ever League Cup title, at the Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday.

It was the first trophy for the Magpies in over five decades, with their last major silverware being the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup on June 11, 1969. The Inter-Cities Fairs Cup was the predecessor to the Europa League.

For Liverpool, on the other hand, the first trophy after the exit of Jurgen Klopp remained elusive, though it looks a clear favourite to clinch the Premier League title this season.

Liverpool is the most successful team in the Carabao Cup, with 10 titles to its name.

Organised by the English Football League (EFL), it is traditionally called the League Cup and gets the name ‘Carabao’ for sponsorship reasons. Any club within the top four levels of the English men’s football hierarchy can compete in the tournament, taking the pool of a team of 92 clubs.

The list includes clubs from the Premier League, the EFL Championship, League One and League Two.

Here is the full list of winners of the League Cup from 1961 to 2025:
