Carabao Cup final: Who is the referee in Liverpool vs Newcastle League Cup clash?
Liverpool will look to extend its record of being the most successful team in the League Cup, also called the Carabao Cup, when it meets Newcastle United in the final at Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday.
The Reds have won the title 10 times but will look for its 11th and the first under Arne Slot while the Magpies have never won the trophy yet.
Premier League referee John Brooks will be the referee in the League Cup final between Liverpool and Newcastle United.
Brooks, who began refereeing in 2004, was promoted to the Select Group 1 of Referees in 2021 and has been a UEFA First Category referee since 2024.
He has been involved in six domestic finals, including the 2016 FA Cup final, where he was an assistant referee.
The Leicestershire man, however, has found himself in the middle of several controversies, especially during the Premier League match between Brighton and Crystal Palace in February 2023 and that between Newcastle and Liverpool in August of the same year.
In the Palace game, Brooks wrongfully ruled out a goal as a VAR official while Magpies’ manager Eddie Howe said the referee got some calls wrong in the match against the Reds.
