ENG vs AFG: Ibrahim Zadran becomes first Afghanistan batter to score century in Champions Trophy history
Ibrahim Zadran became the first-ever batter from Afghanistan to score a century in Champions Trophy history during the match against England in Lahore on Wednesday.
Zadran is the only batter from Afghanistan to score a century in 50-over ICC events. His previous hundred came during the 2023 ODI World Cup against Australia. This is Afghanistan’s first Champions Trophy campaign.
The opener hit a 106-ball century with the help of six fours and three sixes. This is his sixth ODI hundred. He eventually scored 177 off 146 balls – the best score in the tournament’s history and the highest by an Afghanistan batter.
Afghanistan was in trouble after losing three wickets inside the PowerPlay, reeling at 37 for three, when Zadran and Hashmatullah Shahidi stitched a 103-run stand for the fourth wicket to get the team back in the contest.
