ISL 2024-25 play-offs scenarios explained: Two teams fight for last spot
The ISL 2024-25 league phase is nearing its climax, and there are two teams in contention for the last spot in the top six.
After the revamp in the play-offs format in 2022-23, the top two teams secure direct semifinal berths, while teams ranked third to sixth compete in single-leg playoffs for the remaining spots.
League Shield champion Mohun Bagan Super Giant, FC Goa, Bengaluru FC, Jamshedpur FC and NorthEast United FC have secured qualification to the playoffs stage.
Odisha FC kept its playoff hopes alive when it held back a late charge from already qualified Jamshedpur to win 3-2 on Wednesday. The win took OFC to sixth in the table with 33 points after playing all 24 games, one place ahead of Mumbai City FC, which is level on points.
The Kalinga Warriors will need Mumbai City to lose both of its last matches. If it finishes level on points with Mumbai City, Odisha will finish above the Islanders due to its superior head-to-head record against them.
Mumbai City FC needs just a point from its last match against Bengaluru FC to ensure qualification into the top six.
