Super Cup 2025 to be held in Bhubaneswar from April 21
The Super Cup 2025 will be played in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, from April 21, 2025, the All India Football Federation announced on Wednesday.
“Yes, the tournament will happen in Bhubaneswar, but the other details (exact dates and format) have not been decided yet. It will be finalised in the next few days,” Anilkumar Prabhakaran, the General Secretary of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), told Sportstar.
Later in the evening AIFF confirmed the venue and dates in a statement.
The tournament is the cup competition in Indian football, with teams from the top two divisions of Indian men’s football— Indian Super League (ISL) and I-League — competing for the title. However, all Super Cup winners — Bengaluru FC, FC Goa, Odisha FC and East Bengal — have been from the ISL so far.
The winner previously secured a spot in the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) Cup, but now, it gets a berth in the inter-zonal play-offs of AFC Champions League 2, the second tier of Asian continental football.
The Super Cup succeeded the Federation Cup in 2018, and three of its last four editions have taken place in Bhubaneswar.
Its official name changed to Kalinga Super Cup in 2024, with East Bengal winning it in extra time, beating defending champion Odisha 3-2 and securing its first trophy in 12 years.
Though the last edition was played in groups followed by knockouts, there have also been talks of changing the format in the upcoming editions.
