UP Warriorz vs Mumbai Indians Highlights, WPL 2025: MI beats UPW by six wickets
Deepti bowling, Amanjot smacking her for a FOUR over mid on! And that’s pretty much the match for the batting side. A single and just two needed now. FOUR! Yastika with a boundary to wrap up the match! MI wins by six wickets!
Georgia Voll with the ball. Interesting choice especially when the match is tight. Wild swing by Amanjot but the ball doesn’t find any fielder. Just a single. FOUR! Yastika sends it over the covers for a much-needed boundary.
OUT! Harmanpreet tries to cut but holes straight to Vrinda Dinesh at short third man!
Harmanpreet 4 (9) c Vrinda b Harris
Ecclestone bowling out. Harmanpreet with a deft reverse sweep but only gets a single for it. A timeout has been taken as Ecclestone goes wicket-less.
Deepti with her third over. Just four runs off it.
Kranti returns. Smacking sound off the bat as Matthew punches one through the covers for a FOUR! WHAT A SHOT! Matthews waits for the ball and clubs it over deep square leg for a SIX! WICKET! A slower ball and Matthews sends it high up in the air. Voll comes underneath it and takes the catch.
Matthews 68 (46) c Voll b Kranti
Grace Harris with her first over. Great placement by Sciver-Brunt as she scores back-to-back FOURs! AND OUT! Skipper Deepti takes a good catch inside the circle to remove Sciver-Brunt.
Sciver-Brunt 37 (23) c Deepti b Harris
Ecclestone with the ball. She almost gets compatriot Sciver-Brunt’s stumps after the batter moves across the stumps, but it’s some way away the leg stump. Seven runs off the over.
Deepti continues. Half-century for Matthews! She raises her bat as she calmly drives the ball between the gap through the covers for a FOUR!
Henry bowling out. The stars clearly not aligning for UPW tonight! Matthews drives but gets a thick outside edge to help the ball race for a FOUR!
Deepti Sharma with her first over. Five runs off it, good over to stop the constant flow of boundaries.
Kranti back for her second over. Oh no! Harris lets the ball slip between the fingers as the ball slowly touches the ropes for a FOUR! Sciver-Brunt follows it up with another FOUR after a well-timed pull behind square leg.
Gouher Sultana with her first over. Full toss to Sciver-Brunt and she smacks it over mid-wicket for a FOUR! Matthews drives it over the cover fielder for a FOUR! Very, very expensive over there. Sixteen overs from it and a strategic timeout taken.
Back-to-back FOURs off Ecclestone! Matthews having a grand time in the middle here!
Henry with her third over. SIX! Short ball and Matthews punishes it over deep mid-wicket.
Nat Sciver-Brunt at the crease. Kranti Goud with her first over. Two dots and then Matthews cuts past the point fielder for a FOUR! The West Indies all-rounder slashes well and finds the gap between point and short third man for another FOUR!
Henry continues. Matthews pulls well but only a single for the batter. Extras are really costing UPW early on as Henry unleashes a high bouncer which not only misses Kerr but also Uma Chetry behind the stumps for a FOUR! BUT NEVER MIND! Kerr swings but holes out to Grace Harris!
Kerr 10 (13) c Harris b Henry
Sophie Ecclestone with the ball. And she gives away a FOUR! A dot to end the over but eight runs off it.
Well, well, well! Amelia Kerr is opening for Mumbai Indians alongside Hayley Matthews! Chinelle Henry opening the bowling for UPW. And that’s a no ball! And the pacer backs it with a wide. Next ball, Kerr tries to hit long but instead holes out to the mid-wicket fielder. Since it was a no ball, Kerr stays on. Kerr hits it straight back at Henry but it falls just short! And the Kiwi leggie finds the boundary for a FOUR to end the over.
Some heated words between Harmanpreet Kaur and Sophie Ecclestone there, something to do with the number of fielders allowed outside the circle. And, Deepti Sharma is stumped out!
Deepti 27 (25) st Yastika b Kerr
And Ecclestone also is removed on the final ball after hitting a FOUR!
Ecclestone 16 (11) c Amanjot b Kerr
That’s a fifer for Kerr and 151 is the target for Mumbai Indians.
Ismail bowling out. Ten runs off it, but can UPW end on a strong note?
Matthews bowling out and Deepti sweeps for a FOUR! Just a few singles after that.
Parunika with her third over. A review taken for the last ball there which seemingly drifted down Uma’s leg side, but the umpire didn’t call it a wide. And it’s a wide. OUT! Uma holes out to Ismail over at long on.
Uma 1 (7) c Ismail b Parunika
UPW batters are falling like a pack of cards now! Shweta Sehrawat swings big on her first ball and holes out to Sajana over at long off.
Shweta 0 (2) c Sajana b Matthews
Uma Chetry at the crease. Brilliant over by the West Indies all-rounder as she concedes just one run.
Kerr with her third over. Ismail atones her poor fielding from earlier by holding on to the catch after Vrinda tried to clear long on but failed.
Vrinda 10 (12) c Ismail b Kerr
Chinelle Henry comes in and straightaway smacks a SIX over long off! AND OUT! Henry goes for another big hit but doesn’t get the distance this time. UPW in a spot of bother now!
Henry 6 (2) c Sajana b Kerr
Parunika with her second over and Deepti unleashes a well-timed sweep to score a FOUR!
Matthews with her second over. Vrinda tries to clear the ropes down the ground but not enough strength there as the ball falls just in front of two oncoming fielders. Only four runs from it.
Sanskriti Gupta with her first over. A fine over from the young spinner, with a little help from Kamalini at the boundary, as only four runs conceded.
Sciver-Brunt removes for her second spell and delivers! A very slow ball targeted at the stumps and Voll tries to scoop but completely misses. The bails light up as the ball scatters the stumps. A fine knock by the youngster comes to an end.
Voll 55 (33) b Sciver-Brunt
Vrinda Dinesh comes out to the middle and flicks it fine for a FOUR!
Maiden WPL fifty for Georgia Voll! She steps out a bit and smacks Kerr on the full toss for a FOUR! OUT! Kiran swings big but sends the ball back to short third man for a catch for Parunika! The explosive batter fizzles out for a duck.
Kiran 0 (2) c Parunkia b Kerr
Skipper Deepti Sharma out in the middle. Voll continues to find the boundary as she scores a FOUR to end the over.
Ismail returns for her second spell, replacing Kerr. Kiran Navgire, at the non-striker’s end, the newest batter at the crease. Another FOUR as Voll nears her half-century. Kiran faces two balls off Ismail and both are dots.
Hayley Matthews with her first over, and she too is welcomed by a FOUR by Voll! Amanjot, who is usually a dependable boundary rider, fails to stop this one. Next ball, the batter tries to sweep but misses it. The ball strikes Voll’s mid-riff and Matthews appeals. No review taken as the West Indies all-rounder perhaps suggesting the height was a reason. What was that, Ismail? Harris goes down the ground and Ismail was there at long on. However, the South African player raises her hands in apology as she finds herself just ahead of the descending ball that goes for a SIX! OUT! Next ball, a shorter ball to Harris who tries to pull. A top edge finds the ball nestling into the short fine leg fielder’s hand. First breakthrough for MI!
Harris 28 (25) c G Kamalini b Matthews
Amelia Kerr with her first over right after the PP, and she is hit for a FOUR by Voll with a cut towards deep point! A ball down the leg side and Voll flicks it past the short fine leg fielder for another FOUR! Lucky there! A fuller length and Voll catches an inside edge which helps her to get another FOUR! Three dot balls to end the over.
MI deciding to end the PowerPlay with spin as Parunika Sisodia is handed the ball. Oops! Ismail lets the ball slip between her legs at long on for a FOUR! And another FOUR by Harris as the ball is pulled with sheer power at deep square leg. UPW ending the PP on a great note!
Amanjot Kaur brought into the attack for her first over. Slightly shorter ball, moving into Voll but the Australian punches it on the backfoot to deep backward point for a FOUR! Another FOUR, this time by Harris who sends it behind square leg for another boundary! An expensive over from MI.
Sciver-Brunt continues. Harris beats the fielder inside the circle and scores a FOUR over at deep mid-wicket. Seven runs from the over.
Ismail continues. Another FOUR! Voll this time as Sajana Sajeevan does well at the boundary but fails to keep it at bay. Great cut by Voll to send the ball racing to deep point for another FOUR.
Nat Sciver-Brunt with the ball. CLOSE! A slower off-cutter from the English all-rounder tricks Harris and goes just over the bails. It also beats Yastika Bhatia behind the stumps and the ball races fine for a FOUR! Tidy over from Sciver-Brunt, apart from that first ball which could have very well spelled danger for Harris.
Shabnam Ismail with the ball. Grace Harris and Georgia Voll opening. First ball, and the ball catches a thick outside edge off Harris’ bat but it falls in no-man’s land. Shorter ball and Voll pulls it well for a FOUR towards deep mid-wicket! Final ball, a fuller ball right at Voll’s heels and a huge shout for lbw by Ismail. And review has been taken. A thick inside edge and Voll stays on.
Mumbai Indians wins the toss and elects to bowl first. Jintimani Kalita sits out for this match as youngster Parunika Sisodia comes in.
An unchanged side for UP Warriorz.
It’s a new strip, Pitch No. 5!
“It’s a red soil surface, pretty hard and a fair bit of grass on it,” says Mithali Raj on the pitch. She goes on to say that a 180-run chase is very much possible.
Red soil seems to be something favouring the batters, if they bat through the line, Mithali says.
The WPL match between UP Warriorz and Mumbai Indians will be telecast on the Star Sports Network and live streamed on the JioHotstar app and website. Additionally, you can stay tuned to Sportstar’s website and app for instant updates from the match.
Hope you feel refreshed and ready to go after a two-day break as UP Warriorz hopes to get its campaign back on the track after getting a thrashing by Gujarat Giants. Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, will look to move to second place with a win.
