Isak looks to have pulled up a muscle and he is replaced by Callum Wilson. But the Swede’s job is done. He walks back amid applause for every single Newcastle United fan in the stadium. Joe Willock replaces Harvey Barnes as the second substitution in the match.
The window of opportunity keeps getting narrower for Arne Slot and his wards. The cheers for Newcastle, on the other hand, only get louder. Meanwhile, Jones tries a shot on target but goes off-target.

Trippier takes the free-kick. another diagonal one, which is headed away by Liverpool. Seconds later, the Reds go for an attack. Jones, getting the ball from the left, takes a shot on target. Pope meets it with equal quality to make a save a deny a certain goal.
Liverpool looks to break the press with small triangular passes around its box and Burn finally intercepts in the midfield. The Reds look cornered and Eddie Howe’s boys can only lick their lips now.

Newcastle United’s talisman Isak finally scores. Livramento, with an overlapping run, crosses to Murphy, who sets it down for Isak, who finds the left-bottom corner with a clinical strike.

Liverpool starts from the back with small passes and suddenly putting a foot on the gas. But Newcastle’s marking sees the end up to Kelleher again.
Isak gets the ball rolling after the restart and Liverpool will look to make a comeback in a tournament it has won a record number of times.
Liverpool tries to attack in the dying second of the opening half but Jota shoots the ball off-target from the centre of the box. And the referee blows his whistle for half-time.
It is Burn who is in seventh heaven, with the lone goal of the game so far, which keeps the Magpies ahead and happy.

Barnes flies in a cross from the left, which is just missed by Isak and then Trippier tries a shot, which is blocked by Robertson and Newcastle gets a corner. The corner kick is headed by Burn and steered on target by Gumiares. But Kelleher refuses to be beaten.

Newcastle United get another corner and its another chance to hit through set-pieces. Though the corner is headed away by Liverpool, the ball is sent in by Tonali and Kelleher somehow wins the ball in the air over Burn to clear it out of danger.
Newcastle United is maintaining a fixed shape and as Luis Diaz makes a quick run along the left, trying to make a run behind the defence, Pope stops the winger in his tracks. Also, the linesman raises the flag for an off-side.
Liverpool gets a free-kick, which is taken by Robertson. Though Newcastle clears it, the ball falls for Salah, who earns a corner for the Reds. Robertson delivers the corner, which is headed out by Joelinton.
The chants of Liverpool look to have been eclipsed by an ocean of black and white, which keeps singing and raising its voice for every pass forward by the Magpies.
This time, Trippier aims for Burn but the ball eventually falls to Gumiares, but Kelleher finally mitigates the issue to get a firm hold on the ball.

Gravenberch tries to stop an attack by Newcastle and the Magpies get a corner. Time for Burn to show his aerial advantage? Nothing materisalises as Isak concedes a foul and Liverpool gets a free-kick.
