WPL 2025: UP Warriorz looks to extend winning streak against Mumbai Indians
Games are coming thick and fast for UP Warriorz as the side plays its fourth game in a week in the Women’s Premier League.
Despite the compact scheduling, the Warriorz will look to notch up a third consecutive win when it faces Mumbai Indians on Wednesday at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
According to the young batter Shweta Sehrawat, back-to-back matches don’t bother the side. “We have recovery days where we have team activities and gym sessions. Playing back-to-back games is tiring, but we have to play them.”
Shweta and the Warriorz will have a skip in their step after beating home side Royal Challengers Bengaluru in WPL’s first-ever Super Over. UPW’s win was anchored by England’s Sophie Ecclestone’s all-round performance.
On the other hand, Mumbai Indians will be hoping to build on its win against RCB, which came last Friday.
In the league stage, MI and UPW have shared the spoils after two match wins each. Both sides also met in the Eliminator in the inaugural season, but a Nat Sciver-Brunt masterclass prevented the Warriorz from entering the final.
UPW’s most recent win against the Mumbai side came last year during the Bengaluru leg, where Kiran Navgire was adjudged as the ‘Player of the Match’ for her 31-ball 57.
It’ll be interesting to see how Kiran and Sciver-Brunt fare, as both players have shone in this fixture. All-rounders should be ruling the roost on Wednesday with the likes of UPW’s Ecclestone and MI’s Amanjot Kaur coming into this match on the back of showing their individual brilliance.
While MI is positioned just behind table-topper RCB on the points table, UPW sits third, with both sides having four points each. MI has played one match less.
