Mohamed Salah will look to find a silver lining after a forgettable run of games as he leads Egypt against Ethiopia in their FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier on Friday.

Salah, Liverpool’s highest goalscorer this season with 27 goals, was kept completely quiet in the League Cup final as Newcastle beat the Reds to clinch the title last week.

The 32-year-old is the second-highest goalscorer for Egypt, with 59 goals and last found the net – in a competitive international fixture – in a 2-0 win over Mauritania in October last year.

After four rounds, Egypt is leading Group A with 10 points, holding a four-point advantage over Guinea-Bissau and a five-point lead over Burkina Faso in third.

Sierra Leone is fourth in the group with five points, while Ethiopia is fifth with three points. Djibouti occupies the bottom spot with just one point.

A notable absentee from the squad is Ahly’s in-form midfielder Emam Ashour despite being fit to play. The 27-year-old is leading the Egyptian Premier League’s (EPL) scoring chart with nine goals this season.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier between Ethiopia and Egypt will be played at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Morocco.. The match will kick off at 9 pm local time (2:30 am IST, March 22).

The FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier, Ethiopia vs Egypt will be available for live streaming on the Fancode app and website in India.

In Africa, Ethiopia vs Egypt will be available on SuperSport Football (DStv channel 205).
