Premier League 2024-25: Juric leaves Southampton after relegation
Ivan Juric left Southampton a day after the club’s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed in a 3-1 loss at Tottenham Hotspur, the club said on Monday.
“Ivan came to Southampton at a tough time and was tasked with trying to improve a squad in a difficult situation. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen performances progress the way we had hoped,” Southampton said in a statement.
The former Croatia international was appointed by the club last December as the successor for Russell Martin, who was sacked after the side was thrashed 0-5 by Tottenham Hotspur.
“I want us to be more aggressive, to do much more pressing and we have to be quick to change mentality because this is my idea of football,” Juric had said after being appointed.
However since his arrival, Southampton managed to rack up just four points, including one win and a draw. Moreover, the side also exited from the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.
“In the meantime, Simon Rusk has agreed to take charge of the team as Interim Manager for the remaining seven fixtures of this season and will be assisted by Adam Lallana,” the club said.
The Saints face sixth-placed Aston Villa on Saturday, April 12, in their next Premier League clash.
