Swiss Open 2025: Treesa-Gayatri pair reaches semifinals, Sankar Muthusamy knocked out
Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand reached the women’s doubles semifinal of the Swiss Open, a BWF World Tour Super 300 event, with a 21-18, 21-14 win over Hong Kong’s Pui Lam Yeung and Nga Ting Yeung in Basel on Friday.
The Indian pair did not face any real pressure during the match, except when the Hong Kong duo managed to make it 15-15 from 9-13 in the opening game.
But Treesa and Gayatri quickly built a 18-15 lead and then bagged the first game. The Indian duo wrapped up the win in 44 minutes.
Treesa and Gayatri will be up against the top-seeded Chinese pair of Sheng Shu Liu and Tan Ning in the semifinals.
In men’s singles, qualifier S. Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian’s dream run ended following a straight-games loss to Frenchman Christo Popov in the quarterfinals.
Sankar, who stunned World No. 2 Anders Antonsen of Denmark in the previous round, went down 21-10, 21-14 to World No. 31 Popov in 40 minutes.
