Lionel Messi opened his account for Inter Miami in the Major League Soccer 2025 season after scoring in the match against Atlanta United at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Monday.
This was his first start in the league after not featuring in the squad against Houston Dynamos and being an unused substitute in its previous game against Charlotte.
After Emmanuel Latte Lath gave the home side the lead in the 11th minute, Messi found the equaliser nine minutes later after pouncing on a mistake from the Atlanta defence.
Substitute Fafa Picault went on to score the winner in the 89th minute, heading the ball in after meeting a curling cross from Jordi Alba.
The win took Miami to the top spot in the Eastern Conference with 10 points from four games, one ahead of Philadelphia Union in second.
Atlanta on the other hand is currently 12th in the conference with four points from four matches.
