Yashasvi Jaiswal leaves Mumbai, signs with Goa for upcoming season

India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has decided to leave Mumbai and join Goa ahead of the upcoming domestic season, a move that few had anticipated.

Sources within the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) confirmed to Sportstar that they received an email from the India international on Tuesday, requesting a No Objection Certificate (NOC). “In his email, he stated that he is moving to Goa for personal reasons,” an MCA source said.

“I have had the privilege of representing Mumbai in domestic cricket and have immensely benefited from the opportunities provided by the association. However, after careful consideration of my career aspirations and personal circumstances, I have decided to seek a transfer to Goa to continue my domestic cricket journey,” Jaiswal wrote to the MCA, which has granted him the NOC.

Officials from the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) also confirmed the development. “We have spoken to him (Jaiswal), and he will play for Goa in the coming season. The paperwork is yet to be completed, but we have agreed to bring him on board for next season,” GCA secretary Shamba Naik Dessai told this publication.

“His experience will be helpful for the team, but we have not decided whether he will be the captain for the season,” Dessai said, adding: “There’s still time. Once he signs, we will discuss internally and decide on that…”

Jaiswal’s decision comes as a surprise, given that Goa has only recently secured promotion to the Elite Group after competing in the Plate Division. He follows in the footsteps of Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad, who also moved to Goa before returning to Mumbai.

The 23-year-old last played for Mumbai in a Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir in January, scoring a total of 30 runs. However, he withdrew from the team’s semi-final clash against Vidarbha, citing ankle pain.
