Misses the reverse hit and sees his stumps cleaned out. Single off the last ball of the over for Kuldeep. KKR wins by 14 runs!

Harshit with his final over. Four!! Length ball outside off, Nigam throws the kitchen sink and gets an edge through third man for a boundary. Six!! Full and wide, carved over point with a swoosh of the bat and manages to clear the fence. Full and wide, driven to point. Nigam dives full length and makes his ground at the striker’s end. 

Nigam miscues a length ball towards long off for a single. WICKET!! Ashutosh’s reverse sweep goes straight to backward point. Big wicket for KKR and Chakaravarthy! WICKET!! Starc looks to hoick one across the line, goes straight up and Gurbaz settles under it. Chameera on strike for the hattrick ball. Punches a full ball to long on for a single. Six!! Full outside off, Nigam carves it over covers for a six!

Harshit back. Yorker outside off, Nigam jams it back to the keeper. Four!! Nigam moves offside and scoops one over short fine for a boundary. Low full toss on the stumps, guided to deep backward square for one. Six!! Slower full ball outside off, Ashutosh lofts with one hand and manages to clear long off. 

WICKET!! Du Plessis looks to slog one against Narine, holes out to the fielder at the deep mid wicket. 

Ashutosh in as the impact player. Narine gets one to spin in and beat the inside edge. Two from the over. 

Anukul Roy returns. Du Plessis gets a single to long off. Nigam punches one aerially to long off for one more. Four!! Vipraj manages a boundary through third man off the last ball of the over. 

Narine in to the attack. Six!! Axar slog sweeps the first ball of the over long on for six. WICKET!! Miscues the next ball, hands a comfortable catch to Harshit at short cover. Tristan Stubbs gets off the mark with a single to long off. WICKET!! A crucial wicket in the context of the game. Full and spun in just a bit to clip Stubbs’ pads and clatter the stumps. 

Varun back for this third over. Du Plessis punches one down the ground for a single. Four! A touch too wide from Varun, Axar slaps it through cover for a boundary. 

Russell into the attack. Starts off with a no ball. Four!! In the slot outside off, the free hit is creamed through cover for a boundary by Axar. Four!! Low full toss again, hit straight down the ground and Powell can’t keep it within the confines of the boundary. 

Harshit into the attack. Du Plessis punches the first ball to deep cover for a single. Fifty up for the former Protea captain. Slower ball in the slot, Axar makes room and edges one through third man for a boundary. Axar misses his guide through third man. Harshit thinks it has taken the inside edge. Ball tracking says umpire’s call on impact. Axar survives. Four!! Length outside off, Du Plessis slaps it through cover for a boundary. 11 from the over. 

Narine with the 10th over. Four singles to start the over. Axar closes off the over with slog over mid wicket. SIX!!

Varun continues. Drags it short. Faf pulls it wide of mid wicket for a four. DC needs more of this. Faf adds another with a dab down the leg side. Fullish for last ball. Punched over the bowler’s head for a six. This is the over DC needed. 

Full and straight from Narine in his first over. Thumped over long on for a six by new-batter Axar Patel. Quiet over from Narine otherwise. KKR continues to be in control. 

Anukul Roy returns. Miscommunication between Rahul and Faf. Direct hit from Narine at short fine leg and Rahul has to walk back.

Varun Chakaravarthy introduced. Seam up and straight to Faf. Inside edge and it creeps past the stumps and the keeper for a four. Lucky break for DC there. On the pads to Rahul. Clipped away for a four. 

Karun Nair gets into the act now. Punches a low full toss from Vaibhav Arora to the mid wicket fence. Arora cuts in an inswinger to trap Karun in the front. The approval comes following DRS!

Width from Harshit Rana to start with. Cut away for an easy four by Faf. Straighter from Harshit. Chipped over mid wicket for another four by the DC opener. Short now. Flat-batted for another four. 

KKR sticks with the Anukul Roy experiment. Karun shuffles away from the stumps to loft the spinner over covers for a four. Anukul ramps up the pace to keep the DC batters quiet for the rest of the over. 

Vaibhav Arora with the second. Swings one away from Karun Nair first ball. Beaten. Leg-side wide from Arora next up. Full from Arora. Faf jumps out of the crease before slamming it down the ground for a six. 

Anukul Roy with the first over for KKR. Porel swats him away for a four first ball. Anukul slides one away from Porel. Sliced away and Russell completes an easy catch.

Full ball, whipped through square leg where Chameera holds on to a stunner. Dives full length and grasps it with both hands. WICKET!! Yorker delivery, beats Harshit’s waft. Russell looks to run a bye but is caught short of the striker’s end. Three in three for DC. Varun picks up a single of the last ball of the over.

Chameera goes full and wide, Russell drives to deep point for a single. Two wides as he looks for the full, wide yorker. Four!! Karun Nair makes a mess of a straightforward effort, and it trickles to the boundary. Four!! Full and wide outside off, edged through third man for a boundary. 14 from the over. 

Vipraj Nigam with his fourth. Short outside off, pulled down the ground for a single. Russell defends one to short midwicket, Kuldeep is slow to pick up and throw. WICKET!! Rinku goes down the ground, Starc plucks it over his head at long on. 

Rovman Powell in at 8. Four!! Powell moves across and sweeps it fine for a boundary. 

Chameera back for his second. Four!! Full outside off, Raghuvanshi gets an inside edge that runs away fine for a boundary. Low full toss on the stumps, jammed down to long on for single. WICKET!! Full and wide outside off, Raghuvanshi looks to loft it on the offside, miscues it to the sweeper.

Kuldeep comes back for his second. Five dots and a single from the over. 

Axar again. Rinku picks up a double to wide mid-on after Raghuvanshi gets a single off the first ball. Four!! Boundary off the final ball. Raghuvanshi cuts through the offside for four. 

Kuldeep into the attack. Raghuvanshi brings up a couple to deep midwicket. Full on the stumps again, single to midwicket. Four!! A touch short to Rinku, pulled towards midwicket and finds the fence. Raghuvanshi defends one to cover and scampers across for a quick single. 

Axar slides one away from Venkatesh Iyer. Top edge and it is a skier. Vipraj gets underneath it and holds onto it.

An arm ball from Axar Patel spells the end for Rahane’s cameo. Pinged in front.

Short from Vipraj Nigam to start with. Swatted away for a four by Rahane. But,, Nigam gets a breakthrough by trapping Narine in front with a quicker one.

Mukesh Kumar with the final over of the PowerPlay. He concedes two boundaries to start the over. Both crunching cover drives from Rahane. Sweet Timing!! Mukesh keeps the line closer to Rahane from thereon. Solid PowerPlay for KKR. Ends with 79/1. 

Back of a length from Starc. Rahane waits for it and guides it over deep square leg for an effortless six. Low full toss now. Delicate touch from Rahane. But timed enough for a four past mid wicket. 

Sunil Narine goes over the top again. Whacks Mukesh Kumar over mid wicket for a four. Decent over for DC otherwise. Just two runs from it as KKR’s pace slows down. 

Cross seam from Starc and Gurbaz dabs it over the keeper for a four. Short again. This time Gurbaz responds with a full-blooded hook shot. SIX!! KKR off to a flier.

Starc fires in a yorker now. Gurbaz can only chop it to the keeper.

Chameera too goes full. Narine dispatches it back over the bowler’s head. SIX!!! Chameera gives away a leg-side wide before Narine clips a double. On the pads now. Flicked away for a four. Again on the pads. Narine goes one-handed over the leg side fence. SIX MORE!!

Starc goes full and straight first ball. Thumped down the ground for a four by Gurbaz. Starc drags the length back, forcing Gurbaz on the defensive. A surprise bouncer forces a play and miss from Gurbaz. Full for the last ball. Crunched for a four.

An hour before Kolkata Knight Riders’ practice session was officially scheduled to begin at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy made their way to the middle and went about their bowling drills on a side pitch for close to an hour. Without a batter at the other end, the two mystery bowlers were directed to hit spots on the good and full lengths, on which orange markers were placed, under the gaze of spin bowling coach Carl Crowe.

It served as a prelude to the instrumental roles they may have to play when KKR faces Delhi Capitals in the IPL on Tuesday. Particularly if the surface plays anything like the one that was used for Sunday’s game between DC and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, KKR will hope for its two main spinners to step up and make it count. So far this season, both have logged decent numbers without having a decisive say.
