Divya Subbaraju was in top form as she beat Riya Thatte 31-28 for the 25-metre sports pistol gold in the 23rd Kumar Surendra Singh Shooting Championship at the Madhya Pradesh Academy on Thursday.
The 29-year-old Divya had topped qualification with 586 and shot a strong final to assert her supremacy in a strong field, which included Asian Games and multiple World Cup gold medallist Rahi Sarnobat.
Naamya Kapoor won the junior gold, beating Tejaswani 34-33.

Five Indian boxers, including three boys and two girls, advanced to the semifinals of the Asian U-15 Championships here.
From the men’s U-15 championship, Nelson Khwairakpam (55 kg) secured a Referee Stops Contest (RSC) win in the first round over Chinese Taipei’s Wang Sheng-Yang on the fifth day of competitions on Wednesday.
Abhijeet (61 kg) and Lakshay Phogat (64 kg) cruised to 5-0 victories against opponents from Kyrgyzstan and Jordan, respectively in their quarterfinal bouts.
Among the girls, Princi (52 kg) delivered a strong 5-0 result over Ukraine’s Yeva Kubanova.
Samruddhi Satish Shinde (55 kg) wrapped up her bout with an RSC in the third round against Ukraine’s Kseniia Savina.
Six Indians had already made their way into the semifinals on Tuesday.

Srishti Kiran beat Adani Muhammad of Malaysia 6-2, 6-1 in the girls pre-quarterfinals of the Asian under-14 Development tennis championship at the DLTA Complex on Thursday.
Srishti will meet Tamina Saken of Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals. Second seed Jensi Kanabar also made the quarterfinals by outplaying Amanda Teng of Malaysia and will play fifth seed Nualsri Paweenon of Thailand.

Aryan Shah continued to assert his game as he beat sixth seed Ergi Kirkin of Turkey 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 in the pre-quarterfinals of the $60,000 Challenger tennis tournament (Ivory Coast Open II) in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on Thursday.
The 19-year-old Aryan will challenge the third seed Michael Geerts of Belgium in the quarterfinals.

Noida’s Gaurav Pratap Singh shot a course record score of nine-under 63 to take the first-round lead at the INR 2 crore Kapil Dev-Grant Thornton Invitational 2025 which commenced at the Prestige Golfshire Club here on Thursday.
Gaurav’s flawless round broke the previous course record of five-under 67 set by Rashid Khan in 2012.

Hitaashee Bakshi had the best score among the lady golfers after she returned a 69 to be tied 19th.

Goa’s Nitin Belurkar emerged as the sole leader with 5.5 points at the end of the sixth round of the 3rd Maharashtra International Open Grandmaster chess tournament here on Thursday.
Playing with black pieces on the top board, Belurkar opted for the Sicilian Defence and settled for a draw against Ayush Sharma of Madhya Pradesh after 32 moves.
This was Belurkar’s first draw in the tournament following five consecutive wins.
Sharma, with five points, is currently placed second in the standings.
