La Liga HIGHLIGHTS, Real Madrid vs Celta Vigo: Los Blancos survive last Celta surge to clinch narrow 3-2 win

Real Madrid holds on to its one-goal lead and beats Celta Vigo 3-2 to maintain its four-point gap with table topper Barcelona.

Mbappe had a chance to kill the game after the ball fell kindly for the Frenchman inside the Celta box. Mbappe goes for a first-time volley from close distance but fails to hit the target. 

Alvarez has a chance to shoot at goal, but in the end, he scuffs his effort and it is an easy collect for Courtois. 

Five minutes added at the end of the second-half!

Alonso tries to ping in a low cross from the left but fails to find a teammate as his delivery is too near to Courtois, who gets down quickly to collect the ball.. 

A Celta Vigo shot comes at goal from the edge of the box as the Real Madrid defence seems lacking again but Courtois does well to keep the lead for his team.

SAVE – Another moment of brilliance by Aspas, who sends Duran through on goal with a beautiful backheel. Duran takes a low shot once he makes his way inside the box but this time, Courtois does well to make the save. 

Two substitutes combine to reduce Madrid’s deficit to one – Aspas spots Swedberg’s run and threads a brilliant through ball which splits open the Madrid defence. Swedberg gets the ball and keeps his composure to stroke the ball past an onrushing Courtois to find the net. Celta Vigo is very much back in the game.

Vinicius Jr goes on a mazy run on the left and then takes a shot at the near-post with his left foot. The shot has power but the angle was always going to be difficult as the Brazilian international hits the side-netting. 

The Real Madrid defence switched off from a Celta Vigo corner and Sotelo is in the right place at the right time to rifle the ball to the roof of the net.

Mbappe goes for goal directly from the freekick, looking for his hat-trick but end sup hitting the ball straight at the wall.

Real, meanwhile, has a freekick in a good position. 

Bellingham goes on a long run before taking a shot from the edge of the box. He goes for placement, opening the face of his boot but cannot keep his effort on target.

Mbappe (24) has pulled to within one goal of Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski (25) in the race to win the prestigious Pichichi award, awarded to the top scorer of the La Liga. 

Guler shows good vision to thread an excellent through ball for Mbappe, who had timed his run to perfection. He uses his raw pace to carry the ball inside the box and then keeps his composure to shoot across the face of the goal and find the bottom-right corner of the net. 

Fran Garcia swings in a dangerous cross from the left flank, but Oscar Mingueza shows good control to bring down the ball under pressure and clear the danger. 

Real Madrid leads Celta Vigo 2-0 as the second hakf gets underway at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

Real Madrid hurt Celta on the counter – After Iglesias’ deflected cross is saved well by Courtois, Madrid break. Mbappe gets to the end of a long ball and decides to go solo, carrying the ball inside the Celta box. He takes a shot at goal, slipping at the moment the ball left his feet but the Frenchman’s connection was good and the ball rattles the top-left corner of the net yet again. 

Celta again fails to clear the ball, and Madrid attack in numbers. Guler gets the ball on the right side of the box, cuts in and goes for the curler, aiming for the far corner. The connection is excellent as the ball takes a minor deflection off Alonso before rattling the top-left corner of the net. 

Celta Vigo fails to clear its lines as Real Madrid attack in numbers. It ends with Vinicius crossing the ball from the left with Guler trying to get to the end of the cross. However, he is put under pressure which allows Guaita to collect the ball. 

Vinicius spreads the ball to Vazquez on the right, who swings a cross towards the near post. However, Guiata is alert to the danger and comes off his line to punch the ball away. 

Celta are slowly settling into the match and look much more comfortable on the ball as they try to find openings in the Madrid defence. The home team is still dominating the ball with 70 per cent possession. 

Vinicius and Bellingham have been active on the left flank and midfield as of now, but Kylian Mbappe is yet to properly get into the match. He is trying to make runs behind the defence like he so often does but Celta has maintained a compact backline till now. 

The game has a nice free-flowing pace with both teams looking to attack wherever they have the ball. There has been goal-scoring chances at both ends. 

Vinicius is caught by Rodriguez on the left flank, and Real Madrid has a free-kick in a good position. Guler stands over the ball and delivers a cross to the middle but it is dealt with comfortably by the Celta Vigo defence. 

Real Madrid launches a counterattack after soaking up the pressure from a Celta Vigo corner. Valverde spreads the ball to the left to Bellingham, who rolls it for Vasquez. Vazquez’s low cross is met by a Celta Vigo player who almost diverts the ball inside his own net. 

Hugo Sotelo delivers a good cross inside the Madrid box from a corner, and Marcus Alonso meets it with a solid header. However, the header is not on target and Courtois remains untroubled. 

Vinicius does well to keep the ball as he makes a run on the left flank. He lobs the ball in the box, and Arda Guler meets it with a first-half volley. But the connection is not proper and the ball goes out of play.
