Estevao strikes as Brazil beats Chile 3-0 in FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier
Chelsea youngster Estevao scored his first international goal as Brazil defeated Chile 3-0 in their FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier match at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on Friday.
Substitute Lucas Paqueta and Bruno Guimaraes also found the back of the net as Brazil climbed to second in the standings in CONMEBOL.
Chile, on the other hand, was already eliminated from playing in next year’s tournament and fell to its 11th loss in 17 matches in the qualifying tournament.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men were dominant from the get-go and thought they had taken the lead in the opening five minutes when Casemiro nodded in Raphinha’s freekick. However, the celebrations were cut short after he was adjudged offside.
Brazil took the lead in the 38th minute when Raphinha’s shot from inside the box bounced off the opposition keeper before flashing across the face of the goal. Estevao then produced a lovely overhead kick on the goal line to take the lead.
Paqueta bagged the second in the 72nd minute, just moments after he was subbed. Another substitute, Luiz Henrique, drove his way into the box and chipped in a cross which was headed into an empty net by the West Ham United midifielder.
Guimaraes sealed the game four minutes later with yet another easy finish after Henrique’s shot from close range struck the bar and fell in front of him.
