Gulveer Singh wins first gold for India at Asian Athletics Championships 2025

Gulveer Singh won India’s first gold medal at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships, topping the men’s 10,000m event.

This marks India’s third gold in the men’s 10,000m at the Asian Championships, following Hari Chand (1975) and G. Lakshmanan (2017).

Gulveer, the national record holder (27:00.22), started steadily and remained in the five-man lead pack for most of the race.

He surged ahead in the final lap, cruising past Bahrain’s Albert Kibichi Rop, and finished with a comfortable lead, clocking 28:38.63.

This is Gulveer’s second Asian Championships medal, adding to his 5000m bronze from 2023.

India’s Sawan Barwal, also in the lead pack, finished fourth with a time of 28:50.53
