India A squad for Australia multi-day series—Shreyas Iyer named captain: Full list of players, schedule, dates

The BCCI on Saturday announced a 15-member India A squad, which will take on Australia A in two multi-day matches from September 16 in Lucknow.

Shreyas Iyer will lead the squad, while wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel will be his deputy. The squad includes Sai Sudharsan, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Prasidh Krishna, who featured in India’s five-match Test series in England which ended last month.

“KL Rahul and Mohammed Siraj will be added to the squad for the 2nd multi-day match and will replace two players in the squad after the 1st multi-day match,” a BCCI release stated.

The second multi-day match is scheduled to begin on September 23.

The series will be an opportunity for the likes of Abhimanyu Easwaran, Tanush Kotian and N. Jagadeesan, who have been on the fringes of the Indian Test set-up recently but are yet to make their debut.

Meanwhile, the stylish left-hander Devdutt Padikkal will have a point to prove and force a recall to the Test team. Padikkal last donned the white flannels for India against Australia in Perth last year during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series and would want to add to his two caps in the longest format.

The series between India A and the touring Australian party will begin close on the heels of the Duleep Trophy final, which starts on September 11, and will be serve as a precursor to West Indies’ two-Test tour of India beginning October 2.

The two multi-day matches will be followed by three one-day games, scheduled to take place on September 30, October 3 and October 5 in Kanpur.

India A squad: Shreyas Iyer (c), Abhimanyu Easwaran, N. Jagadeesan (WK), Sai Sudharsan, Dhruv Jurel (vc) (wk), Devdutt Padikkal, Harsh Dubey, Ayush Badoni, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Tanush Kotian, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Khaleel Ahmed, Manav Suthar, Yash Thakur.
