India beats Malaysia 4-1 in their Hockey Asia Cup 2025 Super 4s match and goes top of the standings.
Shilananda and Sukjheet combine, with the latter taking a shot across the face of the goal from the left side of the circle. Sukhjeet connects well with his shot but sees it whizz past the post.
India has completely blocked out the Malaysian forward line in the fourth quarter, and not for a second did it seem like there would be any chance for late drama.
Dilpreet tries to get at goal after a cutback comes in from Jugraj but the former cannot reach the ball despite stretching and in the process, takes a tumble.
The final 15 minutes gets underway and the Indians are enjoying a healthy lead.
India leads Malaysia 4-1 at the end of the third quarter!
India has done well to keep a compact defence in this third quarter and not concede. It has found the net once and barring a big collapse in the final 15, it looks like a win for the Indians.
Goal (Vivek Sagar Prasad) – India puts Malaysia under pressure from a penalty corner, from where Jugraj hits the post. India keeps the attack alive. Manpreet puts the ball in the middle with a cutback from the right, and Vivek is there to tap the ball in from close distance.
India looks confident on the ball right now are keeping it very well. It has put the pressure and Malaysia has ended up conceding quite a few fouls in third quarter.
Danger for India early in the third quater as Malaysia’s attacking gets it back-to-back penalty corners but the home team defends well to see off the threat.

The Indians have completely turned it around in the second quarter after an underwhelming first 15. But the aim has to be to capitalise on the lead and not sit back.
Goal (Shilanand Lakra) – That was an excellently worked-out goal for India. It surges forward in numbers, and the Malaysian defence backtracks after being left open. Shilanand gets at the end of a pass from the edge of the circle and finds the roof of the net with a first time scoop.
Goalscorer Sukhjeet sees a green card and is given a two-minute suspension.
Goal (Sukhjeet Singh) – Shilanand Lakra gets the ball inside the box and manages to find Sukhjeet with a pass on the turn. Sukhjeet wastes no time and goes for a first-time shot from close distance to find the net. India takes the lead.
Goal (Manpreet Singh) – India gets five back-to-back penalty corners, and it finally takes advantage of the fifth one. A shot comes in from the injection, which is saved by the Malaysian keeper but he cannot prevent the rebound, which Manpreet latches on and then lashes the ball inside the net for the equaliser.
The second quarter underway as India trails 1-0.
Shafiq Hassan’s goal keeps Malaysia ahead by 1-0 at the end of the first quarter!
Harmanpreet miscues his shot from the edge of the circle, and it is high and wide. The Indian captain, who is playing his 250th match for India today, apologises to hios teammates for the wayward shot.
The Indians have yet to create any scoring opportunities in the match so far. The Indians have been lacklustre from open play and neither has it got any set pieces to put the Malaysians under pressure.
All the early momentum is with Malaysia now, and the Indians are on the back foot. There is a certain fluidity in Malaysia’s hockey at the moment and the home team cannot cope with the tempo at the moment.
Goal (Shafiq Hassan) – An early setback for India as Malaysia completely exposes the Indian defence with an attacking move. Shafiq Hassan penetrates the Indian circle and takes a low shot, which beats Pathak and hits the bottom right corner of the net.
