UAE secures historic first win over Bangladesh in T20I thriller

The UAE secured its first-ever win over Bangladesh after battling till the last delivery to complete a 206-run chase in the second T20I in Sharjah on Monday.

Put in to bat, Bangladesh got off to a strong start, with opener Tanzid Hasan notching up a half-century and captain Litton Das contributing a crucial 40.

Saghir Khan broke the partnership, dismissing Tanzid for his maiden T20I wicket. Towhid Hridoy’s 24-ball 45 helped Bangladesh regain momentum before Saghir struck again.

The visitor posted 205 for five at the end of 20 overs.

UAE skipper Muhammad Waseem combined with Muhammad Zohaib to stitch together a 107-run opening stand. Waseem smashed 82 off 42 balls to anchor the innings, striking nine fours and five sixes.

After his dismissal, with 58 runs still needed, UAE lost a flurry of wickets. However, contributions from the lower-order batters and free runs resulting from Bangladesh’s fielding lapses kept the hosts in the hunt.

Needing 12 off the final over, Dhruv Parashar kept his cool, and Haider Ali struck the winning runs off Tanzim Hasan on the penultimate ball to help UAE seal a famous victory.
