Nupur confirms India’s first medal at World Boxing Championships 2025 after entering semifinals

India was assured of its first medal at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool on Wednesday after Nupur Sheoran (80+kg) beat Oltinoy Sotimboeva of Uzbekistan 4-1 to enter the semifinals.

With this win, Nupur — who earlier this year clinched gold at the World Boxing Cup in Kazakhstan — is assured of at least a bronze medal.

Later in the night, two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen will be in action when she faces Turkery’s Cakiroglu Buse Naz. Other Indians in Jaismine, Pooha Rani, and Abhinash Jamwal will also have their quarterfinal bouts.
